What’s your favorite subject?  Come to AP night and find out how you can sign up to take the AP class in your favorite subject!  Bring your parents on Thursday February 5^th at 6pm.  You and your parents will meet with the AP teachers, learn more about the AP program and discover how your participation in an AP class will benefit you!  Join me!  Thursday, Feb 5^th from 6-7:30pm in the theater and on Main Street.  Don’t forget to bring your parents.

Attention Damonte! International Club is having a special guest this Wednesday to share their adventures in Polynesia.  Please join us and bring your friends!  Room 232, lunchtime, Wednesday.  See you there.

Have you ever wanted to be a lifesaver?

Well, now you can be.  If you are 16 years or older, sign up for the school blood drive on Wednesday January the 28th. Come to the counselor’s hallway during lunch from Tuesday January 20th to Tuesday January 27st.

Sign up now, and become a lifesaver.

Open for all Damonte Ranch Students- GlobalNevada and the Reno Sunrise Rotary Club is sponsoring a Global Gala Essay Contest. Award is $500.00 Deadline is February 27^th. Stop by the Career Center for additional information.

The Literary Club is looking for submissions for our 2^nd annual literary magazine Hoof Notes.  There are submission forms in all the English classrooms and in the library if you’re interested in submitting a short story, poem, drama, or piece of art work.  This year, like last year, there will also be prizes given for winning submissions.  Last year the top prizes awarded were $100.00 gift cards.  We are also looking for a new cover this year.  If you would like to submit a cover it should have the title of the magazine, Hoof Notes, and in some way represent our school.  See Ms. Servilican in Room 214 for further information.  Cover submissions should be in outstanding!  The winner will be awarded a $100.00 gift card and all submissions are due by February 13, 2015.  Submit your cover now. 

The Literary Club will be meeting on Friday, Jan. 23 in Ms. Servilican’s room 214 at lunch.  We’re gearing up for the publication of our next magazine.  All members, please be on time and bring your lunch. 

All boys interested in playing golf this Spring, please see coach Magrum in room 107 for information on preseason training.

Congratulations to Brianna Hughes, winner of the PAC Drama 3rd Annual "5Fest" short film festival!  We jumped from 18 films submitted last year all the way to 30 this year!  The screening was a lot of fun Wednesday night, and we can't wait to see what our young filmmakers come up with next year!  Again, congratulations to Brianna!

Students if you are ill please report to the clinic to contact your parent. We are seeing a lot of students requesting aspirin, cough drops and tums. The Clinic is not allowed to dispense these items. Thank you J

Hey Damonte, got poetry?  Or any other writing piece or art piece?  Well, Hoof Notes, the literary magazine, is seeking submissions.  All teachers and students can submit, and this year we are also seeking some foreign language entries.  Pick up a submission form in your English classroom, from Ms. Servilican’s room, #214 or from the library to be a part of this year’s edition of Hoof Notes. 

Attention Students!  Hoof Notes is also seeking submissions for this year’s cover design.  It should include the name of the magazine, Hoof Notes, consider our school mascot and represent writing in some manner.  For a submission form, see your English teacher or Ms. Servilican in room 214.  There will be a $100.00 gift card for the winning entry.  Entries are due by the end of January!

Damonte Family!  Do you want a Dude Be Nice shirt?  We will be taking preorders this whole week during lunch in the counselor’s hallway.  Or swing by room 101 and place your order with Ms. Lombardi.  The cost is $20.  That’s our cost and a discount from the website.  There will be Dude Be Nice events coming up soon so don’t miss out!

Do you drive downtown and see that big, silver ball and wonder what's in there - it's the National Bowling Stadium.  It is usually used for tournaments, but we are having a fundraising event there on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from noon to 7 pm.  It's only $10 for 2 games and shoe rentals.  You can pre-purchase tickets any day this week and next at the table in the counseling hallway.  Gather up your friends for a great time together at the end of Winter Break to bowl at the National Bowling Stadium. (run until 12/18/14) 

Jostens will be here Monday, December 15^th, during lunch, by the office, delivering class rings.  Jostens will also accept class ring and graduation orders at this time.

The freshmen class will be having a 50/50 raffle December 9^th through 12^th during lunch.  Come buy a ticket for one dollar or six for five in the counselor’s hallway.  Winner will be announced at the end of lunch on Friday.

Are you good in math?  Would you like to be paid for helping other students in math?  Students interested in being a paid math peer tutor at a rate of $10 per hour should pick up the forms from their math teacher.  Students must have A’s in the math courses that they are tutoring for.

TRACK MEETING:

*** Boys Track and Field Meeting Friday the 12^th in Room 111 Coach Woo’s room

A Driver Education class will be offered at Damonte during winter break, January 5-8.  This 30-hour class fulfills the classroom requirement for a driver's license in Nevada if you are under 18.  The cost is $94.  Please call 829-9010 for more information and to register.

Did you know DRHS has a short film festival?!  “5Fest” is running tonight at 7:00 in the theatre, featuring 5-minute films written, filmed, and edited by DRHS Media students and PAC Drama students.  The requirements to be included in this year’s festival must include one of the elements (like earth, air, etc.), a line of dialogue containing the phrase “five-second rule,” as well as a theme of fault.  The films are creative and diverse—come check them out and support exciting film making at your school!
