Attention Students!  The Hoof Notes Literary Magazine is seeking interested people to, once again, have a literary magazine for this school year.  If you’re interested, please come to our first meeting on January 17 in Ms. Servilican’s room 214 at lunch.  We want to see if any of you are interested and also to come up with a new magazine for this school year.  If you don’t know about the literary magazine, come to the meeting and find out what it’s all about!  Hope to see you there!  (Run through 1/17/17)

 

Do you love the music from shows like Chicago and Cabaret?!  Then our spring musical this year is for YOU!  Auditions for The World Goes ‘Round are January 19^th, and this large and flexible cast might just have a place for you!

 

If you missed the Audition Workshop yesterday, you’re in luck—we have one more on Tuesday!  Come learn about our terrific spring musical, The World Goes ‘Round.  With songs from musicals like Chicago and Cabaret, audiences are bound to love every moment of this musical review—so come be a part of it!  The cast is large and flexible, so if you’ve been unsure about being in a musical, this is the perfect opportunity for first timers!  Come to the Audition Workshop Tuesday!  Auditions are Thursday, January 19^th!

 

Jostens will be delivering class jewelry Wednesday, January 18^th, during lunch, located by the office. Jostens will also accept jewelry orders at this time.

 

Did you know that there are students who only graduate high school because of the positive impact of a Math Peer Tutor?  Do you like to help other people and make a difference in someone’s future?  Are you strong in math?  If so, the Math Department is looking for peer tutors for Algebra 1 and also for Alt Ed math classes, especially during period 5.   Please see Mrs. Ault in room 122 in order to sign up.

Read and Succeed Poetry Contest sponsored by the WCSD and UNR.  Students write a poem and the winners receive Wild Island tickets, but every submission receives a book, and the classroom of the winners receive 100 books.  Please stop by the Career Center for more information.

The DRHS choirs are running a coat drive for the Kids Cottage here in Washoe County.  Bring your gently used coats for all ages and sizes to the choir room – room 143.  Thanks for helping out our families in need.

Hispanic Club will be collecting brand new unworn socks to those in need.  We also accept clothes gently worn and cash donations.  Any cash donated will go towards the purchase of socks.  We will have multiple drop locations for your donations from December 7 through December 16.  These locations are: Mrs. Long’s room 217, Mrs. Chávez’s room 230 and Mrs. Gutiérrez’s room 232.

Formerly known as the Reno Air Racing Foundation, this organization creates pathways for students interested in aviation industry careers. Pathways to Aviation provides resources, connections, and activities to students whether they're slightly interested, want to learn more, or plan to pursue careers in this broad and growing industry.

 

Our new program (launching this winter) works closely with high school juniors and seniors, who are very interested in any aspect of the aviation industry. Through this program, the Nevada Aviation Careers program, students will participate in career readiness workshops, attend aviation expert presentations, tour aviation businesses, and work with industry and career mentors. The program is free of charge (thanks to donors), but students are required to register.

 

Need a stocking stuffer? Need a gift to give a friend or a teacher? Boosters has a great idea for you--Window Clings for only $5! These window clings are 4 by 6 inches and feature a large DR in Damonte blue and green.  They will be sold at various events as well as in the Student Store. These are not stickers--they won't stick to your car forever like a bumper sticker. Nevada law states that students, ages 15 through 18, must complete 30 hours in a driver’s education class, plus 50 hours behind the wheel.

TMCC Community Education Driver’s Education class, which costs $99, fulfills the 30-hour classroom requirement. Parents are responsible for the 50 hours behind-the-wheel component.
