PLEDGE & MOMENT OF SILENCE

Today is a “B” DaY

Amigos!  5 de Mayo is coming!!!  Hispanic Club is preparing exciting activities for the whole school. As part of the traditional lunch celebration, the club is going to host the World Cultures’ Event.  If you would like to participate, contact Mrs. Long (Room 217) or Mrs. Gutierrez (Room 202).  You can get a table and represent the country of your choice.  Artifacts, pictures and food (you can offer samples or sell food) are just a few of the possibilities.  All the DRHS clubs are welcome to join us!  Let’s have fun at 5 de Mayo!

Attention Seniors: on Friday, April 18^th there will be auditions for musical performances at graduation.  These will be held in orchestra room at 2:40.  There will be a sign up sheet in the Career Center.  If you are interested or have any questions please see Mrs. Aikin.

Open to seniors who attended Brown Elementary School and are planning to attend an accredited institution of higher education.

3.0 GPA

One page application with essay required:

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas will host the 2014 Summer Transportation Institute (STI) Program for high school participants from July 14, 2014 – July 28, 2014. This will be a residential program where the participants will reside on the UNLV campus and participate in transportation related activities. The purpose of the STI Program is to create awareness and stimulate interest in high school students to take full advantage of the opportunities that exist in the transportation industry.

      Be in the 10^th or 11^th grade for the 2014-2015 school year.

      Have completed or be qualified to enroll in Algebra for the 2014-2015 school year.

      Have cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (minimum).

      Have an interest in engineering, science, transportation, or technology-related careers.

Application in the Career Center Deadline to Apply is May 16^th.

Today is aN “A” DaY

spring break-March 31-April 11, 2014.

Finally Friday and EVERYONE knows that there will be new IC expectations when we return from break… we hope everyone has a safe and fun break… and here are the top 2 most important things you need to know about IC…

2.  IC is an instructional period and all school rules apply.  That includes:

·         Dress code

·         Attendance, tardies and truancy

·         Behavior

·         Technology rules

·         No use of vending machines etc.

1.  The purpose of IC is to teach and support students in structured independence to:

·         Reach individual, school and district learning goals

·         Take responsibility for their own learning

·         Use intervention and flex time for academic success

Students!  We are nearing the submission deadline for Hoof Notes, the literary magazine.  This Friday, March 28 is the last day that you may turn in submissions either for art, short stories, poetry, drama, and nonfiction.  We will not…repeat…will not, accept submissions after this week.  So, all you writers out there must submit anything you’re interested in seeing in the literary magazine by this Friday.  Remember, there are prizes in the form of gift cards for first, second, and third places in each category:  $100.00 for the first prize submission, $75.00 for the 2^nd prize submission and $50.00 for the third prize winner.

LOST and FOUND:  If you have lost a jacket, coat, sweatshirt etc. please come to the corral.  All items that are not claimed by Friday March 28^th will be donated to Goodwill.

A Driver Education class will be offered at Damonte Ranch High School during spring break. This 30-hour class fulfills the classroom requirement for a driver's license in Nevada if you are under 18. The cost is $94. Classes will be Monday-Thursday, April 7-10, from 8 am to 3:30 pm.  Please call 829-9010 to register.

If you are interested in an after-school job, check out the job board by the Career Center.

Have you seen the updates to the new IC rules… here’s the next few countdown items:

5. Students may only use planner passes to go to the bathroom or locker.

·         ONE student at a time.

·         Brief visits to other classrooms or offices need permission by PHONE  CALL.

·         May not be used for the library.

4.  Students must have a signed pre-arranged pass to move to another IC, the library or Career Center!

·         Students won’t return to their original IC

·         Students must sign out of the first IC and sign in to the other IC.

3.  NO pass Wednesday… is a NO pass day

·         Focus on literacy with SSR, instruction or independent work at the discretion of the teacher.

B. to the S. to the U.  That’s right folks, B.S.U. is having a bake sale.  From cupcakes to Rice Krispie Treats, we’ve got it all.  So come to the Counselor hallway at lunch daily this week, Monday through Thursday.  Everything is $1.00.
