Attention
Students:
The
library has a new policy that all students must sign in and out of the library
during class and I. C. If you have any questions, please see Mrs.
McRoberts.
Damonte, can you imagine going to bed hungry each
night, knowing that the next morning you still may not
have any food? FCA and ROTC are partnering together for a canned food
drive. Last year, we competed against schools across our district, and we
brought in 1500 pounds of food, which was enough for first place. This
year, our goal is 2000 pounds of canned food. You can help out by
bringing canned food or other non-perishable items to your first period class,
and members of FCA and ROTC will come and pick them up. The drive goes
from Dec 3 to Dec 17th. Thanks Damonte, for helping out those
who have less than you do.
Attention
all Damonte students! The Literary Club is putting together a student
publication of your writing called Hoof Notes. We are looking for all
kinds of work including poetry, short story or prose, art and
photography. If you are interested in submitting something, find a submission
sheet in your English classroom or the library, fill it out and put your work
in the manila envelope. Literary club members will pick it up from
there. If you like to write and are interested in possibly being
published in our school literary magazine called Hoof Notes, please fill out a
form. As Maya Angelou once said, “There is no greater agony then bearing
an untold story inside you.” See Ms. Servilican in room 214 if you have
any questions.
Literary
Club is also searching for talented artists to create the cover of
our literary magazine called Hoof Notes. You must be a D.R.H.S. student
to submit. The name Hoof Notes has to be on the cover and your design has
to depict our school mascot, a mustang, in some way. We are accepting all
types of medium: drawing, painting, or digital design. The winner
of the contest will receive a $50.00 gift certificate to Meadowood Mall.
Please see Ms. Servilican in room 214 for a submission form and more
information.
SENIORS, IF YOU HAVE NOT
HAD YOUR YEARBOOK PICTURE TAKEN, there may still be time to schedule a sitting by
calling Life Touch at 851-0444. Otherwise, LifeTouch will be on campus
one day only on December 9, 2013, to do make-up sittings. However, students who
have their pictures taken then may not be able to choose which photo will be
included in the yearbook.
The 2013-2014 Student Speakers Contest sponsored by the Lions Club is seeking students, grades 9 through
12, who excel in public speaking to enter their contest. Scholarship
awards are granted to those winners. This year’s topic: Electoral
College: Passé or Good for the Country. If you would like more
information about this contest please stop by the Career Center.
