Safety
~From the Corral
Damonte Ranch High School is committed to school safety. If your student hears about a possible
threat or impending school incident, please have them immediately report it
to school administration to ensure school staff is aware of it. Please tell your student to refrain from
posting the information on social media, as this creates rumors and
panic. Remember, your student’s
responsible actions can help keep students safe and they can remain
anonymous.
The WCSD provides video surveillance on school campus’ as well as on
each school bus to help keep students safe.
Schools are required to practice a monthly emergency drill. The best way for students to help during
an emergency is to be where they are expected to be and follow the
emergency procedures they practice.
Monthly, DRHS practices one of the following drills:

Fire Evacuation Drills teach students how to appropriately evacuate
the building and where to report to.
·
A Code Yellow, securing perimeter doors, is utilized to prevent the
occurrence of a major incident when conditions indicate a higher than
normal threat level is present NEAR campus.
·
A Code Red lockdown is utilized when an actual crisis situation or
impending threat has occurred on school campus (or across the street/near
campus).
·
A Code Blue is utilized for a medical emergency. A trained Code Blue team responds to
medical emergencies.
Students have
already practiced a fire drill, earthquake drill, code red drill and a code
blue drill this school year. Safety
is always our primary concern!

Are you interested in being a part of leadership
here at Damonte? Do you want to be a student body officer
or run for student council for our 2020-2021 school year? Elections are
in January for Student Body Officers and February for Student council.
Student body officer candidate packets will be available starting January 10th
in room 226. See Mrs. Norton in room 226 for more details. (Run it until January 17th?)
Damonte's Speech & Debate team competed in Carson City this past weekend, with David Barrientos
taking first place in Senior Lincoln Douglas Debate as well as top overall LD
speaker, along with second place in Informational Speaking. Owen Sellers
took second place in Congress, Kaylee Nguyen took third place in
Congress, Marina Vallejo took third in Novice Informational Speaking, and
Dalin Moore was 5th in Congress.
¡Hola amigos! Christmas is around the
corner and it is a perfect time to say Merry Christmas to a friend or that special
someone by sending them a Christmas Gram. Hispanic Club will be selling a nice Christmas
Gram on Friday, December 13th only in front of the Career Center at
lunch time. Please provide the eighth
period room number for delivery. Deliveries
will be made on Monday, December 16th at 8*. Donations are $5.00 per Christmas gram.
2020 Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society Essay Contest- Essay
prompt “Vision for Equity and Inclusion”. Open to all grades. Deadline is
January 1st. Please stop by the Career Center for contest rules
& guidelines.
Hey Mustangs- looking for community service hours? On January
31st Poulakidas Elementary School will be hosting a family dance.
Volunteers are needed to help serve food from
6 PM- 8 PM. Please stop by the Career Center for contact
information.
