Safety
~From the Corral
Damonte Ranch High School is committed to school safety. If your student hears about a possible
threat or impending school incident, please have them immediately report it
to school administration to ensure school staff is aware of it. Please tell your student to refrain from
posting the information on social media, as this creates rumors and
panic. Remember, your student’s
responsible actions can help keep students safe and they can remain
anonymous.
The WCSD provides video surveillance on school campus’ as well as on
each school bus to help keep students safe.
Schools are required to practice a monthly emergency drill. The best way for students to help during
an emergency is to be where they are expected to be and follow the
emergency procedures they practice.
Monthly, DRHS practices one of the following drills:
·
Fire Evacuation Drills teach students how to appropriately evacuate
the building and where to report to.
·
A Code Yellow, securing perimeter doors, is utilized to prevent the
occurrence of a major incident when conditions indicate a higher than
normal threat level is present NEAR campus.
·
A Code Red lockdown is utilized when an actual crisis situation or
impending threat has occurred on school campus (or across the street/near
campus).
·
A Code Blue is utilized for a medical emergency. A trained Code Blue team responds to
medical emergencies.
Students have
already practiced a fire drill, earthquake drill, code red drill and a code
blue drill this school year. Safety
is always our primary concern!

This year’s homecoming theme is “Reno the Biggest Little City” also known as- “DRHS- the Biggest Little Homecoming “! You can now buy your homecoming dance tickets during lunch starting Monday the 16th. Don’t wait for the big lines at the end of the
week. You’ll save time and money if you buy them early. Dance tickets are $10 if you buy them on Monday or
Tuesday, $12 if bought Wednesday through
Friday and $15 at the door. The homecoming dance is here from 7-10pm on Saturday, September 21st. Don’t miss out!!
Speaking
of homecoming- this year we will have a tailgate party before the big game on
September 20th. The first 150 who buy tickets to the tailgate party get a free homecoming shirt. Tickets are $10 and are on sale during lunch in the courtyard starting September 16th. You’ll
get your shirt when you buy your ticket!!! You’re going to want one so don’t wait until they are all gone. Thanks to everyone who submitted amazing homecoming logos. Congratulations to Marina Vallejo for coming up with
our award-winning homecoming logo this year.
This year you have the chance to help your class decorate
your homecoming float. They will be working on them after school on Friday,
September 20th at 2:45 in the west and north
parking lots. Come show your spirit and help your class while creating memories!!!
We
want to review the procedure all students should be following when feeling ill at
school. Please ask your teacher for a
pass. We will take your temperature and
allow you to rest. If the student needs
to go home, we ask that a parent show ID and sign you out. All students NEED A PASS EVEN DURING PASSING.
Please
do not TEXT parents from class. If
parents will be sending someone to pick you up, PARENTS need to let the office
know if they are sending someone to pick you up. Thank YOU
Library
update! Hello everyone! Until the library is re-opened, the show
must go on. If you have any books to renew or have any fines to resolve,
please visit the career center where Ms. Howden and Ms. Ford are available to
assist you. Even though the library space isn’t open, the due dates for
your books are still in effect. If you are simply returning a book, the
blue return box by the library doors is still an option and is emptied
daily. If you would like to check out a book, we can still help you out,
just head to the career center.

If you’re
bringing a guest from another school to the homecoming dance, guest passes can be found in
the corral or the wall in the counselor’s hallway. The passes are due Wednesday, Sept 18th.

Best in the West- Reno Rodeo- wear your cowboy gear- no hats of course
Thursday the 19th- is
Disney Day- The Happiest Place on Earth- Dress everything Disney
Friday the 20th- is
Area 51 DRHS Spirit Day- (dress like you’re an alien wearing blue and green
Damonte Ranch gear- NO MASKS PLEASE)
Hola amigos: Hispanic Club will be starting up
next week with our first meeting in Mrs. Gutiérrez’s
room, 232, during lunch on Thursday September 12. If you are interested
in participating in some fun and social activities, come and check us out!

Good morning DRHS Students-
The Corral wants to send out a quick reminder that
if you owe a lunch detention or other consequence to the Corral you will not be
permitted to attend any after school event until it is cleared. This
includes all PAC events, dances, athletic events and any other planned school
sanctioned event. Make sure if you owe the Corral you take care of it as
soon as possible!

Do
you drive to school and park your car on campus??
Parking
passes for the 2019- 2020 school year are here. All student drivers are required to have a
parking permit to park at school. Parking permit applications can be picked up
in the Corral. They are $5 and must be displayed
on the vehicle in the front windshield. When
turning in your application make sure to bring your driver’s license to provide
for verification. Students can park in
the north and south parking lots. There
is no student parking in the staff parking lots or by the mobile classrooms
including zero period or after school. Cars
parked in any other lot will be notified and asked to move their car
immediately. The deadline for purchasing
your student parking permit is September 27th of this year.
Any cars parked on campus after September 27th
that do not have a parking permit may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Damonte has a new club! Dragons and Damonte will be starting this week
with our first meeting in Ms. Meyer’s room, 120, during lunch on Thursday
September 12. If you are interested in
participating in Dungeons and Dragons, a fantasy role-playing game organized by
other students and staff members, come and check us out! For more information email haley.meyer@washoeschools.net.

Team
Rage is a Relay for Life team looking to raise
money for both the American Cancer Society and for My Hometown Hero’s right
here at Damonte Ranch High School on September 14, 2019.
Team
rage was started by Scott Ades, a Reno local who has a passion for helping.
Scott hopes to gather a group of individuals for Team Rage’s striving goal of
walking 1,000,000 steps over the 6-hour Relay for Life event. Scott wants as
many feet moving around the track as possible. This is an excellent opportunity
to help your community

Damonte Ranch High School will be hosting a PSAT/SAT test-prep seminar
Wednesday & Thursday, September 18 & 19, 2019 in the Career Center

Damonte
is starting a brand new crafting club, called TYE. If you would like to learn
knit or crochet or would just like to work on your stuff during lunch with
other makers, please come to room 214 on Mondays and Fridays at lunch.
The
American Heart Association is looking for volunteers for the Heart Walk this
Year on September 15 from 7:30 am to 10:30 am.
