Safety
~From the Corral
Damonte Ranch High School is committed to school safety. If your student hears about a possible
threat or impending school incident, please have them immediately report it
to school administration to ensure school staff is aware of it. Please tell your student to refrain from
posting the information on social media, as this creates rumors and
panic. Remember, your student’s
responsible actions can help keep students safe and they can remain
anonymous.
The WCSD provides video surveillance on school campus’ as well as on
each school bus to help keep students safe.
Schools are required to practice a monthly emergency drill. The best way for students to help during
an emergency is to be where they are expected to be and follow the
emergency procedures they practice.
Monthly, DRHS practices one of the following drills:

Fire Evacuation Drills teach students how to appropriately evacuate
the building and where to report to.
·
A Code Yellow, securing perimeter doors, is utilized to prevent the
occurrence of a major incident when conditions indicate a higher than
normal threat level is present NEAR campus.
·
A Code Red lockdown is utilized when an actual crisis situation or
impending threat has occurred on school campus (or across the street/near
campus).
·
A Code Blue is utilized for a medical emergency. A trained Code Blue team responds to
medical emergencies.
Students have
already practiced a fire drill, earthquake drill, code red drill and a code
blue drill this school year. Safety
is always our primary concern!

TODAY IS AN “A” DAY
Hello, This is Mrs. Hernández with an important message for Juniors
and Seniors. Do you speak a world language
other than English? Are you interested in taking the AAPPL Exam and obtaining
the Seal of Biliteracy on your High School Diploma? The State Seal of Biliteracy is a recognition
given to graduating high school students who have attained a high level of
proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English. DRHS will be offering the AAPPL Exam on
October 16th and the deadline to register is October 14th.

Pre-SEASON WRESTLING PRACTICE will
start on September 30. Monday, Wednesday
& Friday from 3-4:30 pm, in the Wrestling Room.
Our
first fall production runs this week! Men on Boats is a comedy about . .
. some men . . . on boats . . . mapping the Colorado River back in the
day. Only there are no men and no boats! The show has a terrific
cast of young women playing all the pioneering men’s roles, and the ferocious
river scenes are all physical comedy! Come check it out Wednesday and
Thursday at 7:00, Friday at 3:00 and 7:00, and Saturday again at 7:00.
Tickets are $8 for students and staff. Don’t miss out on the first show
of the year!
There will be a meeting on Friday October 4th at lunch in room 144
for students interested in becoming members of the National ART Honor
Society. The nationally recognized organization provides opportunities to
showcase your art skills, give back to the community, and practice leadership
skills. Membership is open to students who have completed at least one year of
art with a B or higher. Come to room 144 to find out more!
Congratulations
to the Navy JROTC mustang battalion drill, color guard, academic, and athletic
teams for receiving a first, second and third place trophies in this last
weekend’s district wide drill meet at North Valleys. And congratulations
to Kyle Starrett for receiving first and second place medals in the individual
drill categories. Good job on your hard work and dedication!
The Damonte Speech & Debate Team
competed at Wooster over homecoming
weekend, with David Barrientos taking first place in senior Impromptu, third
place in senior Lincoln Douglas Debate, and placing 4th top Lincoln Douglas
Speaker. Kaylee Nguyen placed first in novice Impromptu, and both she and
her partner, Maranda Templeton, were in the top 10 senior Public Forum debate
speakers.
It's not too late to join our winning
team! We meet on Thursdays after school in Room 208.
Future Business Leaders of America is having
their first meeting this Thursday, Sept 26th during lunch in room 145.
All students are welcome to join! This club can help you develop
leadership skills, professional speaking, and of course most importantly make
new friends! Once again, the first meeting is this Thursday during
lunch in room 145. See Mrs. Kazarian if you have any questions.

Hola amigos: Hispanic Club will have our second meeting in Mrs. Gutiérrez’s room, 232,
during lunch on Thursday, September 26. If you are interested in
participating in some fun and social activities, come and check us out! Bring
your lunch and of course a new friend. ¡Hasta pronto! (from 9/23/19 through 9/26/19)
This
Friday, September 27th Grandma Thiede’s Mac and Cheese with a green side salad
will be available for a $3 donation to the Foods program. They sell out
quick so make sure you get there at the beginning of lunch. Again, that

Do
you drive to school and park your car on campus??
Parking
passes for the 2019- 2020 school year are here. All student drivers are required to have a
parking permit to park at school. Parking permit applications can be picked up
in the Corral. They are $5 and must be
displayed on the vehicle in the front windshield. When turning in your application make sure to
bring your driver’s license to provide for verification. Students can park in the north and south
parking lots. There is no student
parking in the staff parking lots or by the mobile classrooms including zero
period or after school. Cars parked in
any other lot will be notified and asked to move their car immediately. The deadline for purchasing your student
parking permit is September 27th of this year.
Any cars parked on campus after September 27th
that do not have a parking permit may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Damonte Ranch will host an Armed Services Vocational
Aptitude Battery ASVAB testing on Thursday October 3rd, 2019. Sign
up in the Career Center if you are interested.
