Safety

Damonte Ranch High School is committed to school safety. If your student hears about a possible
threat or impending school incident, please have them immediately report it
to school administration to ensure school staff is aware of it. Please tell your student to refrain from
posting the information on social media, as this creates rumors and
panic. Remember, your student’s
responsible actions can help keep students safe and they can remain
anonymous.
The WCSD provides video surveillance on school campus’ as well as on
each school bus to help keep students safe.
Schools are required to practice a monthly emergency drill. The best way for students to help during
an emergency is to be where they are expected to be and follow the
emergency procedures they practice.
Monthly, DRHS practices one of the following drills:

Fire Evacuation Drills teach students how to appropriately evacuate
the building and where to report to.
·
A Code Yellow, securing perimeter doors, is utilized to prevent the
occurrence of a major incident when conditions indicate a higher than
normal threat level is present NEAR campus.
·
A Code Red lockdown is utilized when an actual crisis situation or
impending threat has occurred on school campus (or across the street/near
campus).
·
A Code Blue is utilized for a medical emergency. A trained Code Blue team responds to
medical emergencies.
Students have
already practiced a fire drill, earthquake drill, code red drill and a code
blue drill this school year. Safety
is always our primary concern!

Spring
Sports are starting soon. Are you
interested in playing Softball, Baseball, Girls/Boys Track, Girls/Boys Swim or
Boys Golf? Athletic Clearance is starting now. You must register online at www.registermy
athlete.com by February 10, 2020. This program only works with Firefox or
Google Chrome. If you have questions,
please see Mrs. Daniels in the Main Office.
Attention athletes, there will be a meeting
in Room 107 this Thursday, 1/9, at Lunch for the upcoming 2020 Track and Field
Season! We hope to see you there!
Hola Juniors,
Hablas Español? Have you ever thought about a career in
healthcare? The University of Nevada,
Reno is looking for bilingual students to be part of the CBESS Program. You will explore careers in healthcare, spend
3 weeks living on the UNR campus during the summer, visit hospitals and
clinics, and more all for free! The
application deadline is this Friday. Don’t miss out!
It’s that time again! Time to get ready for softball season. We’ll have our first kick-off meeting Tuesday,
January 14th at lunch in room 117. Look forward to seeing you then! (Run 1/6 through 1/14)

The theme is “Space Jam” (based on the movie with Michael Jordan) Here’s
some important information…
1.
Starting January 6th, we are kicking off a food drive-
the pantries are low after the holidays and we are going to help by collecting
canned food. Each IC and office (front office, counselors, admin) will be
competing to see who can collect the most canned food!!! The top male and
female teacher or staff member whose group collects the most will be CROWNED
our COURTCOMING KING AND QUEEN at our assembly on the 24th.
2.
There will be a door decorating contest to go along with our Space Jam
theme. There will be prizes for 1st-3rd place door
winners. We would LOVE to have our ICs and staff (ex. library, career
center, counselors, etc.) get involved.

Are you interested in being a part of leadership
here at Damonte? Do you want to be a student body officer
or run for student council for our 2020-2021 school year? Elections are
in January for Student Body Officers and February for Student council.
Student body officer candidate packets will be available starting January 10th
in room 226. See Mrs. Norton in room 226 for more details. (Run it until January 17th?)
Hey Mustangs- looking for community service hours? On January
31st Poulakidas Elementary School will be hosting a family dance.
Volunteers are needed to help serve food from
6 PM- 8 PM. Please stop by the Career Center for contact
information.
