Attention Students -The library is hosting their annual “Food for Fines” drive.  If you owe less than $5.00 in library fines, you may bring in one can of food for every $1.00 that you owe in fines.  Thank you, Mrs. McRoberts

 The Fleet Reserve Association is sponsoring the “National Americanism Essay Contest”.  This year’s theme is “The Bill of Rights and Me”.  Grand prize is $5,000.00!  Stop by the Career Center for contest rules.  All essays are due by December 1^st.

Bunco night is Monday, November 4^th, at 7 pm in the school cafeteria.  Everyone is welcome to come and have fun.  Tickets are $5 in advance in the school office or $6.00 at the door.  This  event is brought to you by the DRHS Boosters. 

Tickets are on sale now for Dark of the Moon, our spooky fall play!  Shows continue at 7:00 on Friday, November 1, and we have 2 shows on Saturday, November 2, at 2:00 and 7:00!  Tickets are $7 for students, $9 for adults!

Seating is assigned, so bring your friends to the box office at lunch or right after school so you can buy tickets that are seated together!  Make this Halloween weekend memorable while supporting the PAC Drama program!

WINTER SPORTS CLEARANCE (BOYS/GIRLS BASKETBALL, WRESTLING & SKI) is OCTOBER 7^th through NOVEMBER 4^th. Athletic Clearance Packets can be picked up in the Main Office.  If you have played a Fall Sport and are interested in signing up for a Winter Sport, go to the main office and sign the clipboard at the Athletic Counter.

The Violet Richardson Award Honoring Young Women for Volunteer Action - Are you a young woman between the ages of 14 and 17 who exhibits leadership qualities as a volunteer in your community or school?  Who sees challenges instead of obstacles?   Hope instead of despair?  If you are or know a young woman who believes in the power of volunteer action, then you/she may be eligible for a Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award.  Stop by the Career Center for more information.

The English Department would like to congratulate the following students for being the September students of the month:  Juan Sanchez-Silva, Alexandra Pollock, Emma Farr, Christian Pilley, Vanessa Ferrara-Ipatzi, Michael Reeves and Alex Chavez.  Your enthusiasm and work ethic are commendable in our English classes here at Damonte Ranch High School.  Please view their pictures and words of recognition in the display case between rooms 214 and 216 in the upstairs hallway.

This class meets the 30-hour in the classroom requirement to receive a driver's license in Nevada for those under 18. The cost is $94. Hey Mustangs, Damonte will be hosting a blood drive Thursday, October 10th.  Sign-ups will continue until Wednesday the 9th in the counselor's hallway during lunch.  If you miss us at lunch, come to room 101 during IC to get your spot.  You must be at least 16 to sign up.  Sign up now because spots fill up quickly!  Please remember to have a hearty breakfast on Thursday, if you plan to donate blood.

TODAY IS A “B” DAY

PLEDGE & MOMENT OF SILENCE

There will be a ski team meeting Wednesday, Oct 9^th, in room 228 at lunch.  Come get information for this year’s ski team.

Hey Damonte Ranch… are you interested in taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, ASVAB?  The ASVAB is the most widely used multiple aptitude test battery in the world, assesses a student’s ability to learn new skills and is a predictor of success in training and education programs.  The Career Center will be hosting a test before the holiday break and would like those students who are interested to stop by and sign up with Mrs. Aikin.  This test is for juniors and seniors.

Congratulations the Damonte Mustangs that were accepted into Washoe County School District’s Honor Choir:  Cassandra Bovee, Anna Engel, Isaac Hickox-Young, bass section leader (highest score in all of Washoe County for bass singers), Brianna Hillaire, Helena Middleton, Joyce Pasillas, Mike Lyndon Rosario, Grace Tibben-Lembke, and Molly Willoughby.

Langston Hughes said, “I like to work, read, learn and understand life.”  So why not do all these things and attend the Literary Club meeting in Ms. Servilican’s room, # 214, this Thursday at lunch.  Now that we have a name for the literary magazine, we’ll be planning our agenda for the rest of the year and deciding on officers.  Come join us as we plan the literary magazine for Damonte Ranch High School! 

Driver Education classes are offered at Damonte Ranch. The next class is Tuesday-Friday, October 15-18, 8 am - 3:30 pm. Hey Mustangs, Damonte will be hosting a blood drive next Thursday, October 10th.  Sign ups begin today, Friday the 4^th, in the counselor's hallway during lunch and will continue until Wednesday the 9th.  If you miss us at lunch, come to room 101 during IC to get your spot.  You must be at least 16 to sign up.  Sign up now because spots fill up super fast!
