Today is an “A” DaY

Next week there is HSPE testing on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, March 3rd-6th, for 10th graders and any Junior or Senior who hasn't passed these proficiencies.  That means 8 am Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for testers and a delayed start Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for everyone else.  Class begins at 11:15 because of testing on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  Wednesday, March 5th, is the writing proficiency for any junior or senior who hasn't already passed.  Looks like its testing week!  Eat a good breakfast and come prepared to succeed!

Attention seniors who have applied and been accepted to TMCC.  The Career Center will have two accuplacer placement tests for TMCC.  The first is Wednesday March 5th @1:40 pm. The second is Friday March 14th @2:45.  Please make sure to stop by the Career Center to sign up and save your seat.

The Student Store is open daily during lunch and is now open after school every day except for Wednesdays.

Nutrition Services is conducting a web-based survey for all Middle School and High School students through March 7. The results will be used to better understand student needs and incorporate the results into our cafeteria offerings.  You will be asked to complete this survey in the Career Center during your up-coming Course Registration.  Bring your survey receipt to the cafeteria and you will receive a free Nutri-Grain Bar for participating in the survey.  One randomly chosen participant will receive a 7” Kindle Fire HDX.  The direct link to the survey is:  www.studentvp.com/washoe.

The Literary Club is looking for writers!  We still need many poems, short stories, art work, photography, personal narratives and more.  Get a submission form from your English class, fill it out and drop it in the envelope, we’ll do the rest.  The end of March is the last month to submit any pieces of writing, so do it now. 

Attention Seniors-The Rotary Club will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior.  This scholarship is only opened to Damonte and Manogue students. There is an additional opportunity to go on and compete for a $2,500.  Please stop the Career Center to pick up the application.

ATTENTION SENIORS:  Did you attend Pleasant Valley Elementary school?  The Career Center now has the application for the Pleasant Valley Elementary school scholarship.  Deadline is March 24th.  Also, if your parent(s) are teachers for the WCSD and belong to Washoe Educators Association (WEA) there are two scholarships opportunities for you.  There is also the Michael Landsberry Scholarship for any student who attended Sparks Middle School.  Another scholarship is available for seniors of Hispanic descent who are interested in pursuing a career in education.  Please stop in the Career Center and see Mrs. Aikin.

To apply for a Tony Armstrong Memorial Scholarship you must have a GPA of 2.5.  Please stop by the Career Center to pick up your application.  Deadline is March 7th.

The prices will go up to $12 at the door!!

Students and Teachers!  The annual Talent Show is TONIGHT in the Theatre!  Admission is $8 at the door for everyone, and your ticket includes one entry into a raffle held at the end of the evening for many prizes!  The Talent Show is always one of the most popular events on campus, and you won’t want to miss the terrific show we’ve got lined up this year.  Make sure you get the seat you want and show up early!  Tickets go on sale in the DRHS box office at 6:00 and the doors to the theatre open at 6:30.  All proceeds benefit the Drama Program, so come soak up the entertainment and support the arts at the same time!

Hey Damonte, We’re almost there! Get ready to get decked out in pink and blue for the biggest rivalry in history! Tomorrow is our 2014 Greek Olympics Battle of the Sexes Assembly! Friday’s theme is Pink vs. Blue so suit up in your color and get ready for the Battle of the Sexes Assembly.
Don’t forget, Damonte!  Dress code applies and you’ll need to purchase a wristband from the corral for a $1 if you wear a hat.

The Damonte Ranch Orchestras will be selling baked goods in the counselors' hallway at lunch on Thursday and Friday of this week to raise money for their upcoming trip to UC: Davis.  Please support our wonderful Mustang Musicians by buying these delicious Valentine's Day treats!

The International Club will meet this Friday at lunch in room 232.  See you there!

Hola amigos: Valentine’s Day is coming up and Hispanic Club will be selling Valentine’s grams at lunch, through Thursday, February 13th. You can reach us in front of the Career Center to buy one, and give someone a greeting for this day with a nice Valentine gram. Please provide the fifth period room number for delivery. Deliveries will be made on Friday, February 14th at 5*

The JV and varsity cheer teams placed 1st at the Rail City Cheer Competition if their divisions. The varsity all girl stunt pod placed 3rd. The varsity team had the highest overall team score to earn the title of Grand Champions.  Congratulations to the Damonte Ranch Cheer Teams!

Attire such as sports uniforms, fanny packs and visors are encouraged. Wednesday is Flag Day so represent your favorite country by wearing the colors of their flag.
